Finding True Happiness

The only way to find true and lasting happiness is through the pursuit of God. we find real happiness and fulfillment when we seek and discover God’s will for our lives. Deep down in our hearts, we know that there must be something else and better, after all, god’s plan for you is better than any plan we may have to ourselves.

We discover God’s will for our lives as we search, study, and obey God’s word. the world tells us to seek happiness within, but  God’s word says that human heart is the most deceitful of all things and desperately wicked and lies to us all the time. True happiness can only be found by obeying and seeking God’s perfect will for us. Jeremiah 29:11 says for I know the plans that have for you says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, to give you future and hope.

To find God’s Will we must surrender our dreams and desires to Him.  Matthew 16:24-26 says:  then Jesus said to his disciples, “if any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me. if you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. but if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? is anything worth more than your soul? Jesus word in this passage may seem extremely harsh. Yet in reality, they are compassionate because they point the way to real life. Anyone who wants this real life must become a disciple of Jesus. That means obeying Jesus’ commands and adopting an attitude of self-denial. To adopt this attitude we must:
  • Lose our life, in other words, we find life only in coming into proper alignment with God and his plan for us. as you “lose your life”, you find it again.
  • Deny Ourselves. Give up your own way means that we put the Will and purposes of God above our own.
  • Take Up our cross. this speaks of “dying” to our own will and selfish ambition. But don’t let this passage frighten you, it is by dying to ourselves that we find God’s plan and purpose for our lives.

Perhaps you’re asking how to discover God’s perfect will for your life?  Romans 12:1-2 says that we must meet 3 conditions to prepare our hearts to know the Will of God:
  1. We must present ourselves to God as living Sacrifice. we need to recognize that we, as Christians, belong to God. The Bible tells us that we no longer own our bodies because Christ paid for them when He died on the cross. Because our bodies belong to Him, we must refrain from sinning. This is what is meant by living sacrifice putting aside our own will and replacing it with God’s.
  2. We must Not Be conformed to this world.  When the Bible speaks of the world, it is not referring to the earth. Rather it is speaking of the spiritually bankrupt mindset that is hostile toward the things of God and primarily focuses on mankind’s own selfish desires.
  3. We must be transformed by the renewing of Our Minds. One of the best ways to become “a new person” is to literally saturate your mind and heart with those things that spiritually build you up. You can do this by studying God’s Word, singing hymns and praises, spending time in prayer, and fellowshipping with other believers.  As the apostle, Paul tells us, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise”.

As we take these preliminary steps, we will be able to more accurately discern the Will of God for our lives. Even Though we often wonder what God’s will may be for us concerning specific areas, the Scriptures reveals certain things that are clearly the Will of God for every believer without exception. Here are four things Scripture reveals as God’s will:
  1. God Wants Us to live under the control of the Holy Spirit. God doesn’t want us to fill our lives with cheap substitutes, like alcohol, possessions, or worldly pursuits. Instead, he wants us to seek to live under the control of the Holy Spirit who produces such attributes as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control in our lives. To be controlled by anything or anyone else is outside the Will of God. John 14:26 says, but when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative that is, the Holy Spirit He will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.
  2. God wants Us to live a Pure and Holy life. God’s Word is very clear with how we should live a Holy life. An example is in our marriage. Premarital and extramarital sexual relationships are never the Will of God for the believer, under any circumstances.
  3. God Wants Us to Have an Attitude of Gratitude. No matter what happens, God wants us to be thankful, recognizing that He is in control of all the circumstances that surround our life. He has promised to work all thing together for good in the life of the Christian. We can rejoice that He has a purpose in mind for whatever we are going through.
  4. God Wants Everyone to Come to Repentance. God makes it clear that he desires to see more people come into a relationship with Him. For that reason, you should take advantage of every opportunity you have to pray for or witness to someone who needs Christ.

Jesus said: I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. By accepting Jesus as our Lord and savior we begin to discover the meaning of true happiness.
