Honouring God with my Conduct

Many times we confuse our  behaviour with our personality. Our conduct is a very important and difficult part to master. Many people try to excuse their bad behaviour, saying that the way they behave is who they are. However the good news is that our “behaviour” is not who we are and it can be improved. The Scriptures give us clear instructions on how God expects us to behave in the different areas of our lives such as: Family, friends, with our church community, our children, marriage and so on.

We all have a unique personality. God intentionally made me the way I am. The personality I have is God’s gift to me. He created it and gave it to me to use it for His glory. Instead of trying to change who we are we should be embracing who we are for God’s glory. However our behavior is very different, We need to make an effort every day with the help of the Holy Spirit to do what is right and honor God with our behavior.

what means Behaviour?
The definition in the dictionary says: The way in which one acts or conducts oneself, especially toward others. Another definition says, It’s the way we “react” to a particular situation or stimulus. The scriptures says in Proverbs: Even a child is known by his actions whether his conduct is pure and right. In order to have a tangible change  in our lives, we need to do our best to show the right behaviours especially toward others. I am sure we all struggle in this area, but the more we seek God, Pray and study His Word, His Holy Spirit will help us improve every day in this area. Keep in mind that this is a process that takes time and only Holy Spirit can transform our hearts. However we all should be making an effort and doing our best treat others with kindness, Patience and love.

Be aware that our mind is full of sinful desires that can lead us not behave properly, therefore we must invite the Holy Spirit to help us  control our minds and be led by the mind of the Spirit. The book of Romans is excellent and teach us the importance of renewing the mind and how we should behave. Romans 12:2 Do Not be conform to the pattern of this  world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is--His good, pleasing and perfect will.

Our spiritual mind is a gift we receive when we accept Jesus in our lives, but we need to feed it every day with the word of God. THe Scripture says: So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace . Thank God that we are not alone but we have the Holy Spirit in our lives to help us make good choices.

We must be alert and resist the enemy . Satan knows that we are human and we all have weaknesses, so he will always “Tempt” us with the desires of the flesh. Remember that we are all tempted in this area of our behavior but the big difference is that we are controlled by the spiritual mind and we are more than conquerors in Jesus Christ. We need to keep in mind that our inner selves is “under construction” so we will make mistakes along the way, but as long as the intention of our hearts is  to please God, everything will be fine, because we know that God is a compassionate and loving Father, and always gives His grace and forgiveness. Romans 8: 1 Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ.

Our goal every day should  be to know more the character of God, studying His Word so you will know what is God’s will for you so we can honor Him with the best of ourselves every day.

Here some Bible verses that will help us in this area:
1 Thessalonians 5:8
But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.
Philippians 4:7
Rejoice in the Lord always. Insist Rejoice! your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything; rather, in everything, by prayer and petition, present your requests to God and give thanks. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:8
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Galatians 6: 9  So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.

Galatians 5:23 2 But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

1 Peter 2: 9 9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 5: 6-9 6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor.7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. 8 Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. 9 Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.
